Marc W. Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York, in March 1948, but soon returned to Toronto where his father, Canadian baritone Charles Jordan, was a well-respected and sought-after voice instructor and recording artist.

Discouraged throughout his school years — due to misunderstood and undiagnosed dyslexia — Jordan nonetheless went on to study film at Brock University, but was eventually more tempted by music, having earlier studied both piano and guitar.
